Summer school is always so much fun for students and teachers. You can freely plan what you want to cover as long as you teach the academic skills that your students need. You can have as much fun as you want. Typical Academic skills for kindergarten students are listed below.

- Social emotional learning and cooperative play and games
All kids love animals and a theme like “At The Farm” can teach children so much more than just academics. You can plan endless activities such as; how farm animals help us and how food is made, how we can be responsible towards animals and the environment. What are the characteristics of farm animals end so much more activities and crafts. This theme is always a success!
Here you can find Farm block center ideas.
Another reason why I like the Farm unit is that there are lots of books about farm animals and farming that you can read aloud. My favorite one is Big Red Barn. This book covers all vocabulary words and has rhyming words. I always have my vocabulary words up and front-load the vocabulary before I read the book. This helps my multilingual students to comprehend the story better.
Have a great summer and happy teaching!
